A young brindle tom lay in a large field filled with colorful wild flowers, many of which had healing abilities. The large field would be a haven to any medicine cat looking for herbs. Yellow Marigold, Tansy, Goldenrod, and Coltsfoot made up most of it, but pinkish Comfrey, white Camomile, and blue Watermint was also mixed in, making a beautiful field of flowers. Mice scurried through the dense weeds and such, but the tom left them to live. He wasn't hungry.
Light amber eyes reflected fluffy clouds that were mirrored in the bright blue sky. The young tom sighed in contentment. This place sure is beautiful...much better then the dark forest that covers most of this land. he though happily, his gaze falling to the forest surrounding the open field. On one side, it was pines that told of fierce cats whom Rex had found called themselves FireClan. To another side was open moors, where cats who called themselves AirClan lived. Behind him was just your typical forest, with oaks and maples, elms and ash's, and who knows what else. The cats there called themselves EarthClan. The last, to his left, was the marshy lands of WaterClan. Why didn't the tom join them? He didn't fit in. He couldn't fight or hunt as well as the cats there, and he just plain didn't like company.
Rex lay in the sun, deep in thought.
A light forest where the sun always shines, and only one cat rules. A brindle tom, muscular and strong, no cat dares enter his territory. This, was the place Rex called home.
His daydreaming went on, but of course he knew none of it would ever happen. He didn't even notice the cat scent coming closer.
((Whoot! I haz MUSE! xD))

A beautiful blue-point shecat padded out from the forest, finding herself farther and farther from the border. Her dark amber eyes shone bright in the sunlight. She sat down in a small patch of Comfrey and Watermint. The scent of herbs filled her nose as she breathed, calming her. She closed her eyes and imagined a place that she dreamed of, and it seemed like home to her. It was a place with mountains, and a waterfall that seemed to go on forever. There was a large field of watermint, comfrey, and chamomile that surrounded the water, and it seemed like morning even when silverpelt shone. She knew this was impossible, but it still seemed so close to her.

The sound of pawsteps jolted Rex out of his daydream. His light amber eyes searched the open field, and fell on a soft cream-colored she-cat with blue-grey points. The brindle tom crouched low in the dense weeds, watching. She smelled like pines, and that musty smell of caves unique to FireClan. The scent of herbs also seems to flow around her...perhaps she's on of those healers that the clans have. he thought. He was unsure if she knew of his presence, and wasn't sure he wanted her to. But something about the she-cat drew him to her, and he slowly crept closer to get a better lok at the pretty FireClan she-cat.

Mysticmemory perked up her ears and opened her eyes to slits. She could see a brindle tom watching her out of the corner of her eyes. Ignoring him, she closed her eyes again. She had the image of the handsome brindle tom in her mind this time, instead of what she was wanting to see. ~How can I think about him? He's nothing to me. I'm a medicine cat and he's a loner... What could he be?~ she thought, trying to shake the image away.

Rex froze as the she-cats ears moved slightly. His heavy paws itched to drag him closer, but his mind told him she might be dangerous. Well, to satisfy both feelings, I'll play the territorial rogue. he thought, giving a quiet chuckle. He put on a fierce snarl and leaped onto the she-cat. "What are you doing in my territory?" he growled in her ear, but his eyes were glued to her pretty face. The dark amber eyes, the dainty build, it just sucked him in. You're the unsocial rogue, remember? Now stop staring at her! he scolded himself.

Mysticmemory's eyes shot open as she was tackled by the brindle tom. "Get off me! And this isn't 'your' territory! This field has been no-cats-land scince I was a kit!" she meowed, a hint of aggression in her voice. She struggled to get out from under the brindle tom, but at the same time she noticed how he was looking at her. She stopped trying to get away. She stared into his light amber eyes, and calmed down every moment they stayed like this.

Rex chuckled. "Well you see, that is beside the point." he replied with a slight chuckle. He slid off of Mysticmemory and sat down near her. "I'm Rex, and you are?" he asked, deciding to switch back to typical Rex. His tail flicked back and forth lazily as he smoothed out his ruffled fur. He didn't mind this she-cat, she wasn't the fierce, bloodthirsty cat he'd thought clan cats were. Or at least, from what he could tell she wasn't.

Rex turned the name over in his mind. Mysticmemory...what a nice name! he thought with a slight grin. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mysticmemory." he replied politely. "So what brings you out of your territory this fine day?" he asked, quite curious. Normally the clan cats stayed inside their own territory, but this one had left those boundaries, and he wanted to know why. Besides, he wanted to start a conversation, and this was a way to do so.

"I usually come here to collect herbs, but Im just here to relax." Mysticmemory mewed. "Our leader left me in charge of the clan just before he went on a journey." she added. She stared straight into the tom's amber eyes. Her dark amber eyes looked like a shadow compared to his eyes. Suddenly she imagined herself back at camp, sharing tongues with him and sharing a vole. 'Snap out of it, Mysticmemory. That will never happen.' is what her mind told her, but her heart said otherwise. 'Go ahead and try. Anything can happen, and the best might...' it said. Would she listen to her mind, or her heart?

Rex nodded. So she is their healer! but why'd the leader leave her in charge? he thought. He knew there was normally a second-in-command in the clans, and wouldn't the leader leave them in charge? Clans are so confusing. he thought with a slight shake of his head. "It must be hard, trying to be a healer and run a clan at the same time" he said finally. Staring into her eyes, he couldn't look away. Not only was she pretty, she was kind and strong. He wouldn't admit it, but he liked her. A lot.

Mysticmemory nodded. "It is. True leader is my brother, but I dont think I inherited anything about leadership." she mewed, a slight chuckle at the end. "Hey, Rex? Would you like to... Come back to the clan with me?" she asked. She had spoke her heart, and she felt she couldn't have done better. "Just for a while, even if you don't want to stay..." she purred.

Rex was a bit taken aback when Mysticmemory invited her to the clan. He turned the idea over in his head, trying to decide. His heart said go with her, where they could see each other every day, but his mind said no, telling him he should stay away from the warring ways of the clans. "Perhaps for a little while" the words slid out of his mouth before he could stop them. Well...I suppose that's it then. I'm going with her back to her clan. he thought skeptically. Just remember, you can leave whenever you want to. he reminded himself.

Mysticmemory smiled and got up, purring. "Lets go then!" she meowed, beginning to walk towards the pine forest. She flicked her tail for him to follow, and disappeared into the pine forest.
